MCD DD: the ice cream machine is a datacenter and here's the math
everyone knows the mcdonalds ice cream machine is always broken. i'm here to tell you it was never broken. it's been doing something else this whole time and i ran the numbers
1. the land
ray kroc said mcdonalds is a real estate company. they own the land under like half their stores and the building under most of the rest. that's ~43,000 locations with power hookups, parking, and zoning already done. hyperscalers spend years getting permits. ronald is pre-approved in every suburb in america
2. the rack
one nvidia rack (72 gpus) pulls ~120 kW. fits in the back where the ice cream machine "lives."
72 gpus × $2/hr rental × 8,760 hrs = $1.26M per store per year
× 43,000 stores = $54 BILLION a year
and that's ONE rack. there's also a walk in freezer. that's free cooling. i'm not even counting it
3. power
120 kW rack needs ~10 gallons of biodiesel an hour off a generator. that's 240 gallons a day
a store puts out maybe 5 gallons of used fryer oil a week
so we're short by like 1,675 gallons a week per store. solution is obvious. sell more fries. every large fry is now a contribution to the power grid. fries go from side item to energy infrastructure. the menu IS the power plant
4. latency
the drive thru already has a speaker, a mic, and a human who gets your order wrong. replace human with model, model gets your order wrong faster. also sell mctokens on the side
5. valuation
$54B datacenter revenue × 30x sales (nvda vibes) = $1.6 TRILLION for the compute division alone. burgers are a rounding error. burgers are a loss leader for tokens
positions: MCD 0dte calls with my grandma's tuition money. applied for the 2am shift to verify the rack in person. if i stop posting they got me
