AI SUMMARY — The author developed a platform detecting institutional overnight accumulation in stocks by analyzing close-to-open returns and overnight vs. intraday Sharpe ratios. RIG (offshore driller) is positioned as a breakout candidate given oil supply shocks, with the author's scanner previously identifying PSIX, SMTC, and NOK before significant gains.

A few months ago I started building a platform to detect institutional overnight accumulation in stocks.

The idea came from a simple observation. When someone knows something they don't buy during the day where every algo and every tape reader can see them. They buy the close. One print. Session over. By the time anyone sees it the data is buried in end of day volume and the market has moved on.

So I built a scanner that watches the close-to-open return on 150+ stocks every single night. Computes the overnight cumulative return. Builds a Sharpe ratio on the overnight session alone and compares it against the intraday session. When the overnight buyer is consistently there and the intraday is bleeding it back every day that divergence is the signal.

Fed it equations. Historical data. Real samples. Kept iterating. Kept getting noise.

Then the pattern emerged. Consecutive overnight sessions. The same buyer showing up at the close. Not every night. But enough nights in a row. While the intraday bleeds. While nobody watches.

Started getting alerts.

PSIX flagged August 21. Both sessions in the same August 28 scan. Ripped +11.1% September 4. SMTC flagged August 28. Up +12.7% the following week. NOK flagged September 7. Up +6.6% the day we posted about it.

All timestamped before the move. All on record.
Then last week I pulled RIG manually. It wasn't in my scanner universe. I had zero offshore drillers in the list. The scanner can't find what it's never heard of. That changes tonight.

Three months of overnight accumulation the scanner never caught.

ON cumulative return last 90 days: +27.5%. ON cumulative last 30 days: +12.9%. 21-day overnight Sharpe: +7.22 against a two-year baseline of +0.22. Acceleration: +7.00.

One of the highest readings in the entire universe I monitor so far.

August 20: +2.57% overnight. No news. August 31: +2.59% overnight. No news. September 9: +1.56% overnight. No news. September 10: +2.28% overnight. No news. September 15: +1.10% overnight. No news.

Just prints in the dark. Night after night. For three months.

We all know what's happening in oil right now but the market hasn't fully priced it yet. No clue why.

Yanbu port. Saudi Arabia's main Red Sea export terminal. Partially shutdown. Ships being rerouted. The Red Sea was already a warzone with Houthi activity. Now the loading terminal itself is disrupted.

Saudi Arabia is simultaneously telling European buyers it is cutting allocations. Not because they want to. Because they don't have enough supply moving through functioning ports to honor the contracts. Europe is getting less oil than promised and the Saudis are the ones making the call.

Meanwhile Iran is shooting anti-ship missiles at vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz every other week. 21 million barrels per day move through that strait. The US military is actively engaged.

Brent crude at $105 a barrel.

Now tell me why 26.1% of Transocean's float is short.
$RIG is an offshore driller. Their customers are the oil majors. When Yanbu shuts down and Hormuz becomes a shooting gallery and Saudi Arabia can't fulfill European contracts the world needs more offshore production. It needs deepwater rigs. It needs Transocean.

The short thesis was written when oil was $70 and the world was calm. Neither of those things is true anymore.
The tape confirmed it before the news did:

Five straight red sessions Sep 2-14. Flushed to $5.45. Then Monday +8.4% on below average volume. The sellers exhausted themselves on the way down. The buyers barely showed up and the stock ripped anyway.

$5.91 stock. $6.6B market cap. 52-week range $3.03 to $7.66. Currently 23% below the high on the day oil hits $105 and Saudi Arabia cuts European supply.

Short interest 26.1%. Every short in this name was positioned for a calm world. That world is gone.
August earnings beat +128% surprise. October 28 next print. Six weeks.

EMAs all stacked below price. RSI 53.8. Room to upper band at $6.14 before first ex
