Two Dutchmen walk into a bar. One said to the other,
"Man this economy sucks. The Count of Holland, Van Deer Trumpp, has been minting guilders faster than the Good Lord himself. Soon my purchasing power will be halved!"
The other sipped his hearty ale while the first one continued.
"Even worse, the Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie may have lost two ships in a voyage. Where am I supposed to place my money if neither equities or cash are safe?"
"Tulips, my good sir."
"Beg your pardon?" The first Dutchman nearly spilled his large tankard down the front of his millstone collar.
"Tulips are an excellent store of value. They cannot be minted by Trumpp, and additionally have gained a 156.9% return in the past 5 years. They are an excellent hedge against economic downturns."
"My good gent, but who wants Tulips? And what is their purpose anyways?"
"Are you kidding? Everyone wants Tulips, look how the price keeps going up and up! As for purposes, Tulips are not only beautiful, but opulently show your wealth. And it durably retains its value, their bulbs return year after year!"
The first Dutchman stroked his chin curtain beard thoughtfully. With asset prices down and inflation up, the most durable investment seemed to be Tulips. Their value was increasing so fast and they were an excellent store of purchasing power. Galvanized, he turned to his friend.
"I think I will invest all my money into Tulips, this literally cannot go tits up!"
