AI SUMMARY — Tesla's 337x P/E valuation is unjustifiable as competitors like Mercedes and Hyundai achieve certified autonomous capabilities, NVIDIA has commoditized autonomous driving software, and Tesla faces competition in both robotaxi and humanoid robotics markets without monopoly positions. Key risks include overvaluation relative to earnings, delayed autonomy certification, margin compression, and execution risk on Optimus commercialization.

TLDR: Tesla P/E: 337x. Mercedes P/E: 7x. Hyundai P/E: 6x. The bull thesis requires Tesla monopolizing every vertical simultaneously. It won't.

If Tesla Solves Self Driving, It Still Loses on Interior

A fully autonomous car is a room on wheels. You're not driving you're sitting. So the question becomes: whose room do you want?

A Tesla iPad on a dashboard or a Mercedes S-Class with hand stitched leather and a massage seat. Tesla's minimalist aesthetic is a liability the second the driver disappears.

And Mercedes already has certified Level 3 autonomy on public roads Drive Pilot, approved in California, Nevada, and as of December 2024, the entire 13,191 km German Autobahn. Legally. Driver can watch Netflix. Today. Tesla hasn't cleared a single government certification.

NVIDIA Commoditized the Entire Software Moat

The Tesla bull case is: fleet data → best AI → winner takes all.

NVIDIA just killed it. NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion is a full-stack L4 autonomous driving platform available to any manufacturer. Mercedes, Hyundai, BYD, Volvo, JLR, Nissan are all building on it. Uber is rolling out a 28-market robotaxi network on it.

The company that builds the AI training hardware will always have more compute than any car OEM. Long term, NVIDIA improves the model everyone licenses the upgrade. Self driving becomes a subscription feature like CarPlay, not a moat.

No Monopoly on Robotaxis

Waymo: 3,000 robotaxis, 11 cities, 500,000 paid rides per week, 200+ million autonomous miles logged as of March 2026. Expanding to London, Miami, Detroit, Las Vegas in 2026.

Tesla will get a slice. A slice is not a monopoly. The valuation prices in a monopoly.

No Monopoly on Humanoids

Figure AI's robot worked 10 hour daily shifts at BMW Spartanburg, contributing to 30,000+ BMW X3s and moving 90,000+ sheet metal components real production, real numbers. Figure is valued at $39B backed by NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Intel Capital.

The low end? China's Unitree and AGIBOT shipped 10,000+ units by March 2026.

Tesla Optimus per Elon's own Q4 2025 call: "primarily for learning, not productive work."

Both ends of the humanoid market are filling up without Tesla.

The P/E Reality

Tesla: 337x earnings. Declining margins, robots still learning, zero certified autonomy.

Mercedes: 7x earnings. Certified L3 on public roads, NVIDIA stack, luxury moat.

Hyundai: 6x earnings. Car company + owns Boston Dynamics + $26B robotics investment.

Hyundai is the identical Tesla thesis car company pivoting into autonomy and robotics except the robots are already working in factories and the stock is 6x earnings.

One More Thing

Xiaomi a phone company set the Nürburgring production EV record at 7:04.957 and ran an autonomous lap in 10:29 with zero driver input.

The "insurmountable Tesla technology lead" is a story, not a fact.

The bull thesis doesn't need one thing to go right. It needs all of them autonomy, robotaxis, humanoids, premium EVs to go right simultaneously against better positioned competitors, at 337x earnings. That's not a bet. That's a Prayer
