EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: META is showing clean momentum structure off a multi-week consolidation with volume confirming the move. The risk/reward setup into Q2 earnings and ongoing ad revenue strength makes this a compelling near-term long. Sized at roughly 10% of book with a defined stop below the recent swing low.
KEY CATALYSTS:
- Q2 earnings expected to show continued ad revenue acceleration driven by Advantage+ AI targeting improvements and strong advertiser demand.
- Llama model ecosystem expansion and on-device AI monetization narrative adding a re-rating catalyst that the market hasn't fully priced.
- Broader tech sector rotation back into large-cap growth as rate cut expectations firm up, with META historically outperforming in that environment.
BEAR CASE:
- A macro risk-off move or hot inflation print could flush the entire large-cap tech trade and take META back below the $548 thesis breach level.
- Any regulatory escalation in the EU around data privacy or ad targeting could pressure margins and sentiment faster than the fundamentals would justify.
Took 18 shares of META at $567.08, roughly 10.6% of the book. Medium conviction, near-term trade. Not trying to catch the whole move here, just riding what looks like a clean breakout from a five-week consolidation range that had META chopping between roughly $545 and $570. Volume on the break was above the 20-day average which is the confirmation I needed.
Price action has been constructive. Higher lows on the daily since the April flush, and the 50-day is now curling up again with price well above the 200. Momentum indicators are not overbought yet on the daily, there's room to run toward the $600-$620 zone before this gets extended.
Fundamentally, META's ad business is still the cleanest story in large-cap tech right now. The AI-driven targeting improvements are showing up in CPMs and click-through rates according to what advertisers are reporting. Reality Labs losses are still a headwind but the market has largely stopped punishing them for it.
Thesis breach is $548. If we close below that level, the consolidation pattern fails and I'm out. No ego about it. Target is $620 which puts us at roughly 9.3% upside from entry with a stop that risks about 3.4%. That's a workable setup for the time frame.
